COMMLD 501: Final Portfolio

Type: Graphic Design, Illustration, Master’s Project

Medium: Digital Art

For my COMMLD 501 Final Portfolio, I have created an illustration reflected upon the program’s technology tenet. The question my 2D illustration pose is "if technology mirrors its creators, then whom is it truly mirroring?".

As an advocate for diversity, inclusion, and accessibility, I believe that it is of the utmost importance that the creators of technology mirror those who use it. After all, technology mirrors its creators. Sometimes that means something good, like creating new forms of communication (i.e. online education during a pandemic). Other times, it can be bad (i.e. bias). We must be intentional when creating technology!

So, I took inspiration from the quote " God made us in His image" and Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam, to create my own version called The Creation of Adam 2.0.

If anything, I truly hope this presentation in illustration style leave you pondering:

"While humans are busy playing God,

they create technology in their image.

But, whose image is that?"

As the top portfolio for the class, I was featured in UW Communication Leadership’s Instagram (@commlead). Go to my main page or their Instagram to check it out!
